Donnie Wahlberg’s Initial Reaction to Being Cast as Tom Selleck’s Son on Blue Bloods
Donnie Wahlberg, known for his role in Band of Brothers, reflects on his journey joining the cast of the hit CBS series Blue Bloods. Wahlberg, who plays detective Danny Reagan, shares his humorous first impressions of meeting his on-screen father, Tom Selleck.
Upon arriving on set, Wahlberg couldn’t help but feel dwarfed by Selleck’s towering stature and iconic mustache. He jokingly remarked, “So I walk in, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, he’s got so much hair, his eyebrows are so bushy.’ I didn’t even care about the mustache.”
Despite initially questioning how he could be cast as Selleck’s son, Wahlberg found ease after meeting the rest of the cast, including Len Cariou, who portrays his grandfather on the show. Wahlberg quipped, “He’s shorter than me, same hairline. I was like, ‘Alright, I got his genes. I’m good.’”
Wahlberg had been vying for a role in Blue Bloods, even before its original title as Reagan’s Law. After persistent attempts, he received the exciting news while on tour with his band. His agent informed him, “Can you be in New York tomorrow? You’re on a show called Blue Bloods, and it’s been picked up.” Filled with excitement, Wahlberg embraced the opportunity and joined the cast as Detective Danny Reagan.
The new season of Blue Bloods continues to captivate audiences, airing Fridays at 10 PM ET/PT on CBS.
