Richa Chadha Reveals Turning Down Role as Hrithik Roshan’s Mother at 21 Due to Moral Stand

Acclaimed for her roles in films like Fukrey, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Masaan, Richa Chadha recently shared an incident where she declined an offer to play Hrithik Roshan’s mother at the age of 21.
Expressing concern about the unfairness to older actors, Chadha recalled the casting director’s assumption that she could convincingly portray an older character.
In a conversation with ABP News, Chadha expressed her discontent, stating that she found it unjust to take young and attractive actors and age them for roles that could be better suited to older artists with fewer opportunities. Despite feeling upset about the situation, she acknowledged the eventual casting choice, praising the actor who played the part.
Chadha highlighted her refusal as a moral stance, believing it was not only against her principles but also unfair to more suitable, older artists who should have been considered for the role. Reflecting on the incident, she mentioned not being called by that casting director again.
Discussing her role in Gangs of Wasseypur, where she portrayed an older character, Chadha explained her acceptance was based on the film’s narrative, where multiple characters underwent aging. In this context, she felt her character did not stand out, considering the broader focus on aging in the storyline.
Looking ahead, Richa Chadha is gearing up for Anubhav Sinha’s upcoming film, “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai,” featuring a stellar cast including Saurabh Shukla, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, and others. The movie promises to be a noteworthy addition to Chadha’s diverse filmography.
