“Kohli and Iyer Shine in India’s Massive 243-Run Win Over South Africa”
India’s dominance in the ongoing men’s ODI World Cup continued as they won all eight matches they played. In a recent clash against second-placed South Africa, India outclassed their opponents with a convincing 243-run victory.
While the entire team delivered a strong performance, Virat Kohli stood out, scoring an unbeaten 101 and matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in ODIs. Shreyas Iyer also played a vital role, contributing 77 runs off 87 balls and forming a crucial partnership with Kohli. These performances helped India reach a total of 326/5 after Rohit Sharma’s explosive start.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was highly impressed with Kohli and Iyer’s batting, considering their ability to adapt to changing conditions. He believed their efforts deserved more recognition than the opening partnership of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who scored 62 runs in less than six overs.
Gambhir highlighted the challenge posed by spin bowling in the match, particularly Keshav Maharaj’s performance. Although Maharaj only conceded 30 runs, he managed to take just one wicket. Kohli and Iyer’s solid batting forced South Africa to reintroduce their fast bowlers.
On the bowling front, Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer, securing a five-wicket haul. Thanks to his excellent bowling, India limited South Africa to a mere 83 runs in 27.1 overs.
